There are no tuition fees for PhD students. In addition, grants are made available to cover 1-10 month research and study visits of international PhD students under fully accredited PhD studies’ programmes regardless of the specialisation.
Eligibility requirements:
- The candidate must reside in a country other than Estonia and must be enrolled in a doctoral programme offered by an educational institution recognized by that country’s authorities.
- The candidate must not be enrolled as a student in a higher education institution of Estonia when the application is submitted.
- The candidate must undertake to resume the studies in the home country upon the end of the grant period.
- The application on behalf of a candidate must be submitted by the host university, which must also cover the expenses related to the Visiting Student’s study and research.
Funding arrangements:
The grants (DoRa 5) will be issued to the host university, including:
- a monthly PhD student grant (383,47 €) for the duration of the student’s stay at the university;
- a fixed travel grant for one return trip from the student’s place of residence to Estonia;
- an additional grant to cover the cost of the health insurance for the period spent in Estonia, and the stamp duty payable on the residence permit (if necessary);
- a mobility allowance of 255,65 € per month for each month spent in Estonia that covers only the following costs, which must be fully documented (additional fixed travel grant to cover additional trips to home during the academic year; rent, covering temporary accommodation in hostels and hotels, internet; relocation expenses, such as excess baggage charges or international cargo charges).
Please note that the application for the grant must be submitted by the supervisor of the University of Tartu, so no candidate can apply for the grant directly. The applications must be submitted to the International Student Service.
