Ordering from foreign publishers

Tartu University Bookshop provides its customers with a book ordering service for the works of fiction and science in foreign languages that are currently not held in stock.

Direct contacts with many leading international publishers and wholesalers allow us to meet even the most specific orders. Oxford University Press, Macmillan, Elsevier, Birkhäuser, Walter de Gruyter, Cambridge University Press, John Wiley & Sons, Blackwell, McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, Springer Verlag and Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura represent only some of our business partners.

The number of suppliers increases constantly according to the needs of our customers. Besides providing works of literature in English, we have frequently ordered books in German, Finnish and French. Where a customer is interested in the work of literature in some other foreign language, we make every effort to provide our customer with the desired book.

Orders can be placed both in our shop at Ülikooli St. and by phone, fax and e-mail.

Books can be ordered based on the name of the author, title of the book and ISBN (International Standard Book Number, the unique international identification number given to all printed works in order to enable quick and accurate identification of any publication.) But where the ISBN is unknown, we can find a book by author and title or just by the title.

The title or catalogue information does not usually provide a sufficient overview of a book, therefore we offer our customers a pre-ordering service, which enables us to get additional information on the book by making an inquiry on particular publication from the publishing houses. It takes approximately 4-6 weeks until ordered books reach Estonia. The customer is notified of the arrival of books by phone or by e-mail (according to customer’s specification).
