This homepage has been intended to present information about the Chair for Ancient Near Eastern Studies for both these who just happen to take interest in the Chairs current projects and people connected to help them in their everyday work. Meanwhile we try to add some introductory assyriological material in word and picture, so that both students of the Department and people not versed in this science could have access to the outcome of modern research. Currently the situation in Estonian scientific literature is quite sad, but we have to admit there is a serious lack of English and German sites presenting introduction to assyriology for non–scientists.

We hope this homepage could also encourage general interest in assyriology as a relatively young, but rapidly developing science with a wide perspective. If even one of the visitors of this page would later read some of the recommended books or visit some of the lectures at the Chair for Ancient Near Eastern Studies, our work has not been in vain.

Generally, we try to keep up parallel versions of mostly all texts in Estonian, English, and German. All offers for cooperation are welcome: trk@ut.ee
