Graphic Art

The collection of graphic art consists of more than 6,000 prints. The collection originates from the art collection of the Estonian manor of the Lipharts, which reached the University in the 1920s. Liphart's collection represents the principles of art collecting in the 19th century, containing both old graphics and series reproducing the 19th century.

The collection features valuable prints by European masters of the 15th-18th centuries belonging to different schools and periods (Dürer, Pollaiuolo, Ugo da Carpi, Ostade, Hogarth, etc) as well as examples of Japanese woodcuts. The majority of the collection comprises 19th century illustrative series and reproductive graphic art. The collection also displays graphic art by Baltic Germans and a selection of works by Estonian graphic artists, which were added to the collection later.
