dotSummary:

Considering the main aspects of psychology, pedagogy and computer science a conception of scientific visualization will be developed. The technical solution will be designed and both the exploratory and expressive learning environments will be programmed in co-operation with the computer science specialists.

The application of the environments at schools allows clarifying the appropriate patterns characteristic for different phases of the problem-solving process. The appropriate instructions for scaffolding the learning process will be developed. It is predicted that scientific visualization will decrease students’ misconceptions and improve their problem-solving skills through linking the conceptual understanding on macroscopic, microscopic, and symbolic levels. The appropriate learning materials will be developed according to the different individual abilities and learning-styles of the learners. It is supposed that hypothetico-predictive reasoning in the expressive environment and the following problem-solving activity in the exploratory environment will improve students’ problem-solving skills through activating and linking their individual verbal and visual systems.
