Estonian Language Course „Keel selgeks I“

Credit points for the course: 4 ECTS
The course is designed for adult language learners who are not able to participate in daily classroom-based courses. The course is also suitable as a follow-up for those who have already taken some Estonian language course for beginners. The course will help to develop oral and written communication skills, the knowledge of Estonian vocabulary and grammar at the level A2–B1.1. The course is based on the textbook „Keel selgeks!“ which is intended for adult learners.
The language of instruction is English and 90% of the course is web-based. The aim of the course is to provide the students with practical Estonian skills, which would allow them to continue studying Estonian at the level B1.1.
The topics covered during the course are connected to the daily life: information about you and your family, shopping, home, work, friends and hobbies, etc.
The course materials are in the Tartu University learning environment Moodle. The exercises (writing, reading and listening) are divided into five units. Creative assignments must be presented to the lecturers. Feedback on the exercises will be provided to the students individually via e-mail and during Skype meetings.
The course includes five meetings on Skype and respective communication tasks for which the student should prepare in advance.
The student assessment will include the results of progress tests based on the study materials, the course will end with an exam (web-based test). The students will be notified of deadlines for homework and the test dates during the course. Feedback on the test results will also be provided to the students individually via Moodle or e-mail.
