Why study business at the University of Tartu?


The University of Tartu has been a forerunner of business education and research in Estonia. Thousands of our alumni work successfully in private businesses, hold important positions in public companies and institutions, or have continued in academic careers worldwide. The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration has been an Alma Mater for many outstanding business and political leaders, notably, Mr. Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission.

Application and admission

Admission requirements:

Admission takes place according to a ranking list of applicants built on the basis of scores in Mathematics and motivation letters: the share of mathematics is 60% and the share of motivation letter is 40% from the total amount of admission points.

Application process for international candidates:

  1. Submit the online application form. We ask you to upload the electronic copies of all the required documents to your application. This makes the pre-processing of your application quicker and is especially important for candidates applying to more than one programme. You will receive an applicant code, which gives access to your account to track your application status.
  2. Mail the printed and signed application (do not send any documents by e-mail) with all the required documents by the indicated deadline to:

Application deadline: April 16, 2013

Documents to be submitted for admission:

  • online application
  • motivation letter - guidelines and evaluation criteria are included in the online application form;
  • official copy of the secondary school certificate and grade list in the original language*;
  • certified translations of the secondary school certificate and grade list into English;
  • official copy of results of the final/state exam in mathematics (unless it is part of the secondary school certificate/grade list)*;
  • official results of the English language proficiency;
  • copy of the passport page stating the applicant's personal particulars.

* Please note that all copies of education documents (diploma, exam certificate and grade list) must bear an original seal and a signature of an authorized official of the issuing school. Copies of documents can also be notarised or certified with an Apostille. Some country specific requirements also specify the way documents must be certifed.

NB! Applicants graduating from secondary school after the indicated deadline must send all documents available at the time of application (including their most recent results) and notify the admissions office when they can expect the rest, e.g., the date of your national exams, or scheduled date for your international English test.

Only complete applications will be considered by the Admission Commission.

Important information for non-EU applicants

Announcement of admissions results


The university`s Admissions Commission will announce final admissions results by June 3rd. Admission notifications are sent by an e-mail. All admitted students must inform the university of their decision to accept or cancel admission offer by June 10th.

Please note that the decision regarding admission can only be taken if all required documents have been sent to the university.

Information for applicants interested in transfer

If you have already started your Business Administration studies at another university and would like to transfer to the University of Tartu, the following documents are required to assess your transfer possibilities:

Tuition fee and tuition-waiver scholarships for Business Administration

Altogether 27 applicants will be admitted to this programme. The tuition fee is 3140 EUR/year and covers tuition only. Books and living expenses are not covered by the tuition fee.

Based on the admission ranking list, two best applicants will be offered the tuition-waiver scholarship. Students receiving this scholarship do not have to pay the tuition fee if they complete full-time study load (30 ECTS per semester). If it turns out that they do not complete full-time study load per semester, they have to pay tuition fee per missing credit point below the required 30 ECTS. Price per credit point is 52 euros.
