Mandatory password change for UT students in October
The University of Tartu IT Office organises a mandatory password change in October for all users of UT information systems who have not updated their password in the last two years. The aim of the mandatory password change is to make the university’s information systems more secure.
In October, password change will be mandatory for UT students of all faculties and units. First, the employees of the Faculty of Social Sciences are asked to change their passwords (2–9 October), then the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (10–17 October), the Faculty of Science and Technology (18–24 October) and finally, the Faculty of Medicine (25–30 October).
UT Information Security Manager Tanel Meiel said that everyone will get a reminder when it is time for password change in their structural unit, so there is no need to worry about it.
Password change takes a few minutes only. On the day of password change, a message is displayed on the computer screen informing the employees that they cannot enter the university’s information systems unless they change the password (see the picture). On this day you will not be able to use UT information systems with your old password. You need an ID-card or Mobile-ID to change the password.
The University of Tartu Information Technology Office recommends changing the password before the mandatory password change date, because it is easier then – you just need to know your old password to change it.
The password takes effect simultaneously in UT information system SIS.
With any issues concerning the password change, please call IT Helpdesk at 737 5500 or email arvutiabi [ät] ut.ee.
