International Cooperation

From its earliest days, the University of Tartu has been an international institution both in its vision and in its actions. The University of Tartu values its place among eminent European research universities and pays special attention to building and developing links with esteemed universities of the world.

International co-operation is a prerequisite for ensuring the sustainability and quality of teaching and research at a university. Cultivating a network of international relations allows the University of Tartu to boost the mobility of its academic staff and students and motivates them to learn foreign languages.

UT's research co-operation efforts have been extensive and successful - the scientists and scholars of the university are frequent contributors to reputable research journals and participants in many international research projects. Numerous international conferences attracting high-calibre researchers from all over the world are held in Tartu.

The circle of the university's international partners extends from the Baltic Sea to North America and Australia. The University of Tartu participates in the activities of several European university networks, such as the Utrecht Network and the Coimbra Group, an association of prestigious European research universities.
