The Emmy-nominated Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir will perform a free concert at the University Assembly Hall

The Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir will give a free spring concert on Friday, 20 May 2011 at 7.30 pm at University of Tartu Assembly Hall. The University of Tartu partner university's choir is under direction of conductor Dr. William A. Wyman.

The concert program will feature American and European choral music including pieces by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and American composer Eric Whitacre, as well as spirituals by Jester Hairston and Moses Hogan.

The Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) Choir visits Tartu in the framework of its tour to Sweden and Estonia. In Estonia, the Choir will give two concerts - besides Tartu they will also perform at the Methodist Church in Tallinn on Sunday, 22 May at 6:00 pm.

The Wesleyan Choir is a select 44-voice ensemble of undergraduate singers, the majority of whom are music majors. The choir has a long history of performances throughout the United States and concert tours in South America, Asia, and Europe. Among the honors the choir has achieved in their home country is an Emmy Nomination.

The Choir is under the direction of conductor William A. Wyman, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Nebraska Wesleyan. In addition to the University Choir, he also conducts the Wesleyan Opera Theatre, Wesleyan Chamber Singers and several other choirs in Lincoln. Dr. Wyman is a life member of the American Choral Directors' Association having served as a National Committee Chair and Convention Program Chair, In 1996 the Nebraska Choral Directors' Association selected Dr Wyman as the outstanding choral director of the year. He was inducted to the Nebraska Music Education Hall of Fame in the fall of 2004 and received the Mayor's Arts Award for Arts Leadership in June, 2005.

The NWU Choir concert takes place through the University of Tartu and Nebraska Wesleyan University cooperation program, with support from the Harry and Rebecca Huge Foundation. The Nebraska Wesleyan University President, Dr. Frederik Ford Ohles, will accompany the NWU Choir to Estonia for the Estonia portion of their tour.
