Ernst Jaakson Scholarship Goes to UT's International Relations Ph.D. Student, Birgit Poopuu

The University of Tartu foundation has awarded the Ernst Jaakson scholarship - Estonia's largest - to Birgit Poopuu, a Ph.D. student in political science.

Poopuu will use the funding to attend the University of St. Andrews in Scotland (UK) where her academic advisor will be one of the world's leading international relations scholars, Oliver Richmond.

Poopuu's work deals with the evolution of the role of the EU as a peacekeeping institution.

The sholarship will bepresented to Birgit Poopuu in ceremonial meeting held in honour of Estonia's National Day in University Assembly Hall on 23rd of February.

The Ernst Jaakson memorial fund was established 10 years ago as the legacy of the legendary Estonian diplomat, who left over 500,000 euros to support education. Ph.D students, research fellows and young teachers are all eligible for scholarships.
