The President of Estonia to acknowledge four UT members with state awards

On the eve of the 93rd anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the President of Estonia, Mr Toomas Hendrik Ilves will acknowledge 99 people with state awards, among them four members of University of Tartu.

Scientists recognized with state awards are Mr Kristjan Haller, physicist and Vice Rector for Research of UT; Mrs. Birute Klaas, UT professor andthe chairof Estonian Language Council; Mr. Peeter Torop, UT professor and semeioticist and Mr. Jaan Panksepp, professor in the University of Washington (US) and UT's honorary doctorate.

“Estonia wishes to thank those who have done much to make our country secure; to make Estonian science, culture, and its economy known at home as well as abroad; to make Estonia successful yet mindful of its people,” said the Head of State.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves signed a decree to award 99 people from both Estonia and abroad with state awards to recognise the service they have rendered to the Republic of Estonia.
