The President of the European Parliament will speak about the unemployment of young Europeans at the University of Tartu
From 30 September to 2 October it is possible to listen to several lectures by German scientists during the conference “Germany in Europe, Europe in Germany”, which takes place during the academic month at the faculties of UT. On 1 October - the reputation day of the conference – Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament will participate in the assembly hall of UT at 2.15 p.m., who will discuss the topic of unemployment of young Europeans together with the students.
“Already five years they have been discussing against the background of European economic crisis, what is the role of Germany, the country with the largest economy and population on the continent, in overcoming the crisis,” said the organizer of the conference Vello Andres Pettai, Professor of Comparative Politics at UT. “On the one hand, the citizens of Germany, who elected new members to Bundestag on 22 September, themselves expressed their direct opinion regarding this question. We will discuss it at the conference why the result was as it was and what is going to happen now to Germany and to Europe.”
“The European economic crisis has been a topical issue both before and after the elections. The question is whether Germany, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, has done everything in order to create stability in Europe and at the same time protect the country’s own interests? The issue of the unemployment of young people, which concerns every citizen of the European Union, also creates passion,” said Pettai. “Finding a solution to the topic of unemployment of young Europeans is priority also for the President of the European Parliament, who meets the students during the conference and discuss the topic “Increased unemployment in EU among young people: how to improve the situation“.
