Public lecture by Chief Justice Anton Ivanov
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Commercial Court of the Russian Federation, Anton Ivanov will give a public lecture entitled „Rule of Law and Russian Court System“ on March 22, 15.00-16.00 in the Assembly Hall of the University of Tartu Main Building.
The talk will introduce the judicial system of the Russian Federation, its structure, features, current goals and development trends. Mr. Ivanov will share his views on the importance and ways of promoting the rule of law in such a large country as Russia, as well as on the possibility of further improving the fairness and transparency of proceedings. Questions are welcome!
Mr. Anton Ivanov is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Commercial Court of the Russian Federation, head of a judicial system that comprises 112 commercial courts in all regions of Russia. He was appointed Chief Justice in January 2005 and is now in his second term of office. Under Mr. Ivanov’s rule, the system of Russian commercial courts has become increasingly modern and transparent; for example, e-justice and videoconferencing have been introduced. Mr. Ivanov is active in the sphere of legal scholarship since 1978. He has published over 40 works, is a co-author of a civil law textbook and a recipient of the Distinguished Lawyer of the Russian Federation award.
The lecture is in Russian, simultaneous translation into English will be offered.
