RECORD YEAR FOR PHD THESIS DEFENCES AT UT
The degrees were granted to students who have defended their PhD theses during the period from December 2005 to December 2006. The highest number of grantees were affiliated with the Faculty of Biology and Geography (21), followed by those of Medicine (19) and Philosophy (16).
”This is the record of PhD grants for a single year,” said Professor Birute Klaas, UT Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. “If we can keep this pace, we will achieve the target set in UT Strategic Plan for 2008—150 PhD degrees per year.”
During the previous year, 75 PhD students defended their theses at UT, while the total figure of doctoral degrees granted in all of Estonia’s universities amounted to 135.
