Students made the Study Information System of the University of Tartu smart

The students of the University of Tartu have made it possible to use the largest study information system of Estonia (ÕIS) on iOS and Android platforms. In student-friendly user interface students may among other things to see their timetable, take notes and send e-mails to lecturers.

In the framework of their software project practice the students of the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Tartu have developed an application for iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod) and Android platform, which enables using the Study Information System via telephone. The initial version of Android based application is already available in Google Play application store, the iOS application is still under development.

"In the framework of the software project class student teams develop their first real applications for "real" customers. If interesting tasks are solved in cooperation with the ordering party, students are motivated to give an even bigger contribution in order to achieve a better result," said Jaak Vilo, Head of the Institute of Computer Science.

In the mobile Student Information System of the University of Tartu students can view their timetable both on a weekly and daily basis, selectively hide classes, view the time remaining until their next class, read more detailed descriptions of subjects, send e-mails to lecturers, take notes, use a map and navigation for finding study buildings and display all study buildings of the University of Tartu on one map.

The authors of the application are Marko Tiidla, Priit Tiidla, Roland Roose and Andres Nirk.
