UT AGREES WITH EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO PROMOTE THE WORK OF EU INFORMATION CENTRE AT UT LIBRARY

The aim of the EU Information Centre is to help UT develop its study and research activities in the field of European integration and provide information about the EU and its underpinning principles to the public at the universities and elsewhere.

The Centre is responsible for making arrangements for proper processing, cataloguing and indexing of publications as a single collection. It must also ensure access to publications, provide consultation to users, and annually report on its activities to the Commission Delegation.

The establishment of EU Information Centres goes back several decades -- the first Centres were launched in 1963. Their number currently totals 697, of which 403 are located in the Member States. Outside the Union, Centres have been established for instance in Israel, Japan, Russia, Angola, Morocco, New Zealand, Peru, the Philippines, Korea, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia and the US.

UT Library became an EU Information Centre in 1992. As of the end of 2004, the Centre’s collection held 1906 monographs or parts of monographs, as well as 347 serial publications.
