UT Estonian Genome Centre to Open a Brand New Building

On Wednesday 25th April everyone can take a tour in UT Estonian Genome Centre's new biotechnology facilty.

The University of Tartu's new biotechnology center, a facility designed to significantly improve the working conditions of researchers, was opened on April 24, ERR says.

The center's rooms are spacious and employ the latest technology, ETV reported, citing a basement level that houses 15 genetic data containers and a robotic mechanism that should make analyzing tissue samples much faster and more convenient.

Cryo-biotecnologist Atso-Heinar Jõks said that the fact that the containers are completely automatic leaves researchers more time to take gene samples.

"As the infrastructure is currently perfect, we need to devote the next five years to finding and educating staff and inviting the best scientists from around the globe to work here," said Andres Metspalu, head of the university's Genome Center.

The center has invited the public to see the facility today, April 25, at an open house that starts at 16:00. A number of presentations by researchers will take place during the evening.
