UT to Open a Run for Rector Elections

THE UNIVERSITY OF TARTU announces a call for nominations for the position of Rector, with elections to be held on 31 May 2012.
The Rector will be elected by the University Electoral Council for a five-year term. The Electoral Council consists of members of the University Council and Senate, members of the Faculty Councils, and all University of Tartu Professors and Lead Research Fellows.
Eligible candidates for the position of Rector must hold, or have held, the position of Professor in Ordinary at a university. Candidates may be nominated to the Electoral Committee by Faculty Councils of the University, 15 University of Tartu Professors in Ordinary jointly, the University of Tartu Student Body, the incumbent and former Rectors of the University of Tartu, and the councils of other research institutions in Estonia.
Candidates will be registered by Rector Election Commitee ( consisting the Chair Toivo Leiger, Professor of Mathematical Analysis; Anne Kull, Professor of Systematic Theology; Vahur Ööpik, Professor of Excercise Physiology; Kalle Merusk, Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law and the Student Representative Villu Uus).
Applications must be submitted to the University of Tartu Academic Secretary at 18 Ülikooli St, Tartu 50090 by 3 pm, 7 May 2012. The elections will take place on 31st of May. The Rector will be inaugurated on 31st of August 2012.
