UT's New Video Invites to Explore and Discover

As Estonian universities now compete with not only universities around the world but with world-class universities, our strengths must be presented in a way that's attractive and easy to grasp. "And video format is perfect for this, so we tried to convey the spirit that invites people to study in Tartu," said Kadri Kirst, University of Tartu Senior Specialist for Public Relations, who coordinated production of the video.

The concept of the introducing video is novel in the field of Estonian higher education. Through three stories, three great achievements are brought to the viewer, from the Struve Geodetic Arc and Juri Lotman's semiosphere to ME-3, the lactic acid bacterium discovered by prof Marika Mikelsaar and her research team. By showing the environment where these discoveries were made – the only Estonian university in the world top 5% universities in the world – the video invites potential students to explore and discover themselves.

The video was made by Kaur Kokk (writer and director), Ivar Taim (cinematographer), Mihkel Zilmer (composer, author of soundtrack "Magneta"), Arian Levin (sound designer), Tiiu-Ann Tello (production designer), Maik Kalberg (editor) and Maie Rosmann (producer). Actors from Tartu Student Theatre and the Drama School of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The video with Estonian sound and English, Russian and Finnish subtitles is available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0UZjH8SqOs.
