UNESCO Fellowships
UNESCO Fellowship Bank Scheme requires that all applications be channeled through the National Commission for UNESCO of a candidate's country. The fields of study within UNESCO's areas of competence are those relating to Education, Natural Sciences, Social Science and Humanities, Culture, Communication, Information and Informatics. Owing to the high cost of training, fellowship possibilities at UNESCO are scarce. Undergraduate students who wish to pursue studies in their own country cannot be beneficiaries of UNESCO fellowships. Furthermore, applicants must have exceptional merit, and have demonstrated that they possess outstanding potential to contribute to the social, cultural and/or economic development of their country to be considered for a UNESCO fellowship. Graduate studies for citizens of developing World Bank member countries
In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Programme awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank. Through its management of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP) and the Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Programme (RSM Fellowships), WBI supplements its training programmes by providing opportunities for graduate study to promising professionals from developing member countries. Fellows may seek support for a combination of domestic and foreign study; stronger proposals often include significant time abroad. Focus on geographic areas, languages and fields of study seen as critical to U.S. national security, drawing on a broad definition of national security, including military, political, environmental and social concerns. Boren Scholarships are intended to provide support to students who study languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad. The National Security Education Programme (NSEP) awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). Scholarships are intended to provide support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad and critical to U.S. national security. Ford Foundation International Fellowships Programme applicants must be resident nationals or residents of an eligible IFP country or territory. Currently, these are: Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam. IFP selects Fellows on the strength of their clearly-stated intention to serve their communities and countries of origin, and expects that they will honor this obligation. Ford Foundation International Fellows may choose to study in any academic discipline or field of study related to the Ford Foundation's three grant-making areas: 1) Asset Building and Community Development, 2) Knowledge, Creativity, and Freedom, 3) Peace and Social Justice. Students from HESP Network Institutions (International Higher Education Support ) Programme are eligible to apply for spending a visiting semester in Estonia. The programme supports visits to/from a HESP Network Institution by students enrolled at higher education institutions in Central, Eastern, and South Eastern Europe; the former Soviet Union; and Mongolia.
