Competition to study as an exchange student at Beijing Jiaotong University
Pursuant to the cooperation agreement between the two universities, students from the University of Tartu have the chance to apply for a student exchange to Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) in China. Exchange students are guaranteed free tuition at host university; all other expenses (travelling, insurance, accommodation, meals etc.) must be covered by the student.
Language of instruction: mainly Chinese, some programmes are taught in English. It is also possible to study Chinese.
Programmes taught in English:
Software Engineering (Bachelor's and Master's level);
Mechanical Engineering and Automation (Bachelor's level).
Chinese language programmes: beginners, intermediate and advanced level.

Competition for the academic year 2013/14
The competition is open to students from all study levels and specialities. Students applying for Bachelor's programmes, must have completed at least one year at the University of Tartu.
Proficiency in Chinese language is not necessarily required (if student takes courses taught in English or participates in the Chinese language programme).
For taking courses in English, students must be fluent in English - required at least level B2 on CEF scale.
Application documents (in English):
- UT application for study abroad;
- Statement of purpose (letter of motivation);
- Letter of recommendation from a supervisor or professor at UT;
- Transcript of records (with average grade; in English); Master's and PhD students must also submit a diploma supplement (in English) on the previous level of study (ask for that at the International Student Service from your coordinator);
- Certificate on command of English (IELTS, TOEFL or the test of UT Language Centre), minimum requirement: on CEF scale at least level B2;
- Certificate on command of Chinese (if applicable).
Application deadline: April 1, 2013.

Letter of motivation needs to be sent also by email to piret [dot] must [ät] ut [dot] ee (in addition to the hard copies).
The students selected by the UT grant committee will also have to complete BJTU application form, submit one photo (3x4 cm) and the copy of passport (page bearing personal details).
