Co-operation with Towns and Counties
In 1996, the university launched a regional outreach programme in order to create close co-operation links with partners all over Estonia. The aim of the regional programme was to make a contribution to achieving national development aims through research, training and development work.
To improve access to the university’s services, university colleges were established in Pärnu (West Estonia) and in Narva (East Estonia). The Faculty of Law also established a branch in Tallinn. In 2005, the Viljandi Culture Academy became an affiliated unit of the University of Tartu.
The university has entered into regional co-operation agreements with the administrations of 13 Estonian counties (there are 15 in total), with the Association of Municipalities of Estonia and with the Association of Estonian Cities, as well as with many other organisations and businesses.
