Changing Your Password

At the moment the user of the University's computer network does not have to change the password as temporarily the system has been set in a way that passwords do not expire. However, it is recommended that one should change his/her password from time to time.

New password has to be at least 8 symbols long, definitely include letters and numbers and at least 3 symbols have to be different compared to the previous password. The password may include both lower and upper case letters, whereas lower case and upper case letters are considered as different letters, but please note that no diacritic letters can be included. The password can also be longer than 8 symbols.

How to change your password?

There is one option to change your password in the University's computer network:
through web from here.

Click on the link above or open the web browser on the following address: https://passwd.ut.ee.
NB! The password can not be changed with the UNIX passwd command anymore as the former NIS+ was changed to LDAP.

It may not work in other servers of the University immediately after changing the password. It will take about 15 minutes for the change to take effect in the other servers, dependant on their work load. It is possible, that during this time you may still log in with your old password. You should not worry about it as the new password will later take effect in all the servers of the University.
