Call for abstracts prindi

All public health and health care professionals, policy-makers, scientists and students are invited to submit abstracts for presentation by May 31, 2010 (NB! Deadline has been prolonged) to

Abstracts shall be reviewed by the Programme Committee by June 22, 2010, and the decisions are notified by e-mail.


ABSTRACT TOPICS

Since the focus of the conference is on Baltic countries, the presentation topics would preferably be linked to at least one of the three countries. International comparison is encouraged. The abstracts are expected to be in line with the sub-themes of the conference, and fit under the following specific abstract topics:

 1. Inequalities in health:

  • Measuring/describing inequalities
  • Trans-generation patterns in inequalities in health
  • Administrators role in addressing health disparities

2. Academic Public Health:

  • Competencies for Public Health Educational Programs
  • Innovations in Global Health Education
  • Pathways to Careers in Public Health
  • Practice-Based Teaching, Research, and Service
  • Public Health Education: Learning Futures, Technologies and New Approaches in Education
  • Trans-Disciplinary Education

3. Health Policy Development in Health Systems:

  • Health policy and health systems
  • Horizontal and vertical integration of public health programs in health systems
  • Health in all policies and working with other sectors
  • Lessons learned from public health programs in past years
  • Innovative ways to finance public health initiatives
  • Improving health outcomes through effective policies

4. HIV/AIDS:

  • HIV prevention among specific populations
  • HIV prevention issues domestically and internationally
  • HIV Testing
  • HIV treatment successes and challenges
  • Illicit drug use, tuberculosis and HIV
  • Integrated approaches (case management) to HIV prevention and treatment

5. Public health practice - Baltic forum

  • Current institution, challenges, accomplishments in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. For the discussion, consider the Essential Services of Public Health:
    • Monitor health status
    • Diagnose and investigate 
    • Inform, educate, and empower
    • Mobilize community partnerships
    • Develop policies and plans
    • Enforce laws and regulations
    • Link people to needed services / assure care
    • Assure a competent workforce
    • Evaluate health services
    • Research

6. HTA and Health Informatics in public health:

  • Data protection in Public Health
  • Ethical Issues in Public Health
  • Clinical System Requirements for Data Collection
  • Computational Methods for Data Collection and Reporting
  • Data Mining Technologies and Applications
  • eHealth Communication

7. Health determinants:

  • Health behaviour: eating habits, physical activity, smoking, alcohol and drug consumption
  • Social, economic and physical environment
  • Public health and the primary health care
  • Infectious diseases  

Although abstracts that are in line with the plenary sessions related themes are encouraged, other public health and health services topics are welcome as well.

FORMAT

Authors may choose between the format (oral or poster) of the presentation, but the Programme Committee reserves the right to re-allocate the chosen format. The oral presentations shall be in the 15-30 minute time limit. Poster presentation guidelines shall be made available on the conference website. Separate poster presentation session is included in the conference programme, and the author will be requested to be present during the allocated session.
In case you need other equipment (e.g. video) than data projector for your oral presentation, please indicate the need in your application.

 ABSTRACT GUIDELINES

  1. Authors can submit several abstracts.
  2. Authors can indicate the type of presentation they wish to make (Oral or Poster, Poster only). Please note that the final decision will be made by the Programme Committee.
  3. Abstract format: All abstracts for oral or poster presentations must be submitted in English. The length of the abstract should not exceed 300 words in 11-point Times New Roman. Do not include tables, figures.
  4. The abstract must be structured as follows:
    • Purpose
    • Materials and Methods
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Topics of abstract submission (with reference to the above-mentioned abstract topics)

BEST POSTER AWARDS

Among submitted and accepted abstracts for poster presentation, the Scientific Committee of the conference will select the three best posters for the best poster awards: one from Estonia, one from Latvia and one Lithuania.

Upon deciding on the awarded posters, the following will be taken into consideration:

  • Author's geographical location
  • Scientific or clinical value of work and research
  • Uniqueness and novelty of abstract thesis
  • Practical value of abstract to the public health practice
