India folkloristika sai valusa kaotuse käesoleva aasta 28. aprillil, mil Guwahati–Tezpuri maanteel toimunud õnnetuses hukkusid kaks noort Assami rahvaluuleteadlast. Kailash Dutta töötas Tezpuri Ülikooli kultuuriteaduste osakonna lektorina, Parag Moni Sarma sama osakonna professorina.

Aastapreemia määratakse silmapaistva tulemuse eest folkloori teaduslikul uurimisel ja/või uurimistulemuste populariseerimisel. Arvestatakse ühe kalendriaasta jooksul jüripäevast (23. aprill) kuni järgmise aasta jüripäevani ilmunud publikatsioone või muud preemia statuudile vastavat teadustegevust.

Second Circular: Supernatural Places

Dear conference participants,

With this circular we send more information about the 6th Nordic-Celtic-Baltic folklore symposium SUPERNATURAL PLACES to be held in Tartu during June 4-7, 2012, organised by the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore and the Department of Scandinavian Studies, University of Tartu, in cooperation with the Centre of Excellence in Cultural Theory.

Confirmed plenary lecturers include Lina Būgiene (Vilnius), Terry Gunnell (Reykjavik), David Hopkin (Oxford), Irma-Riitta Järvinen (Helsinki), Bengt af Klintberg (Stockholm), John Lindow (Berkeley), Diarmuid Ó Giolláin (Cork/, Notre Dame, IN), Jonathan Roper (Tartu), Daniel Sävborg (Tartu), Timothy Tangherlini (Los Angeles) and Ergo-Hart Västrik (Tartu).

The working language of the symposium will be English. Each paper will be given 20 minutes for presentation with 10 minutes for discussion. Conference rooms will be provided with necessary equipment for presentations (computer, overhead, PP-projector, etc) and presenters will be granted technical assistance.

In the attachments registered participants will find the preliminary timetable of the symposium and practical information concerning travel and accommodation. We will send you a more detailed program by the beginning of April. You will also find the updated program from the symposium’s homepage at http://www.ut.ee/folk/index.php/en/events/295

Please note that you should book the accommodation as soon as possible. Some of the hotels in Tartu are already fully booked for the symposium period. In the attachment we offer a list of hotels and hostels, to which we have made a reservation for symposium participants.

The symposium will include a book exhibition, which we invite you to join. For this purpose you could bring along recently published folkloristic literature and journals. We would appreciate it if you could please consider donating a copy of the exhibited publications to the libraries of the organizing institutes.

Folkloristika eriala doktorant Kristel Kivari - analüüsib energisammaste ümber koonduvat uut kohapärimust, maaenergeetikaga seonduvat seltsitegevust ning erinevaid suundumusi selles.

New Special Issue Online: Journal of Ethnology and Folkloristics Vol. 5 (1)

Journal of Ethnology and Folkloristics has just published its latest issue Vol. 5 (1) "Religion and the Re-identification of Ethnic Groups" online at http://www.jef.ee.

The current special issue, compiled by prof. Art Leete, is dedicated to studies of religious and identity changes in post-socialist regions. The authors grouped together here aim to provide interpretations to the dynamics of the contemporary religious landscape in Estonia and the Russian North as they appear after the collapse of the Soviet system.

This special issue was supported by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (Centre of Excellence in Cultural Theory, CECT), Estonian Science Foundation (grant no. 8335) and the Center for the Study of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements in Russia.

The Estonian Folklore Archives invites you to the Seventh Annual Conference of Folklorists which is dedicated to the 75th birthday of Dr. Mall Hiiemäe (January 9th, 2012). The title of the conference is "Pärimus inimese ja maastiku dialoogis" (Folklore in the dialogue between man and landscape) and it will be held on February 2-3, 2012.
