On April 14-15 the Department of Scandinavian Studies at Tartu University arranges an international symposium:
Cultural Exchanges Across the Baltic Sea in the Middle Ages - Symposium and Workshop
1st Meeting of the Austmarr Network
The symposium will take place at the library of the Department of Scandinavian Studies, Ülikooli 17.
The purpose of the network is to gather scholars from different disciplines working on the pre-modern (pre-1500) contacts between the Nordic cultures and the cultures north and east of the Baltic Sea (e.g. Saami, Karelian, Finnish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian). After the lectures of the symposium, the meeting will continue in workshop form with discussions. The aim is to plan a more regular activity for the network.
