The University of Tartu is an international research university and the only classical university in Estonia that offers a wide range of study opportunities in an historically rich learning atmosphere. Research-based curricula, high quality and international collaboration are the three characteristics of education at the University of Tartu. This combination provides graduates with recognised qualifications that make them competitive both locally and internationally.
The University of Tartu is considered the alma mater of Estonia and welcomes all dedicated and motivated students. As the national university, the University of Tartu, in cooperation with the state, works to ensure the continuity of an educated Estonia. In addition to degree programmes at bachelor, master and doctoral levels taught in Estonian, there are numerous top-quality continuing education courses. We promote the concept of life- long learning bybringing high-quality education to the wider public.
There are a growing number of international programmes attracting students from all over the world. Currently, the University of Tartu offers a wide range of degree and short-term study programmes taught in English or other foreign languages. The university strives to create an international student body whose diverse backgrounds enrich the teaching and research environment. We believe that everyone should have the right and access to high-quality education.
There are currently nearly 17,400 students enrolled, among them 500 international degree and exchange students. The university places high value on international experience and provides full support to mobility by encouraging students and staff to make use of various exchange and scholarship opportunities, including Erasmus, ISEP and others.
"When I finished high school, I thought I would never have to do somersaults again, but studying at the University of Tartu has also taught me how to turn a cartwheel!"
