On 9–11 June 2019, the Fourth Annual Tartu Conference on Russian and East European Studies takes place at the University of Tartu. The theme for this year’s conference is “Communities in Flux: Rethinking Sovereignty and Identity in an Era of Change”.
The conference will open on Sunday, 9 June at 18:00 with a keynote speech by professor Gerard Toal (Virginia Tech, USA), titled "Atlanticism and Empire". On Monday, 10 June at 16:30, professor Nancy Condee from the University of Pittsburgh (USA) will deliver a keynote on "Wishful Thinking: The End of Sovereignty in Postcommunism’s Third Decade (2009–2019)". Parallel sessions of the conference will take place on Monday and Tuesday (10-11 June) at the Faculty of Social Sciences (Lossi st 36).
The conference is held in English. The plenary sessions are open for everyone interested, the parallel sessions and other events are mainly for the conference participants and guests. Guest registration is open until 31 May.
