It is already the 6th values education conference that is organised by the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu. Thus, the conference is a nice tradition which every year brings together more than 200 headteachers, teachers, officials and education professors to discuss the ways how to improve values education in Estonian schools. Each year we have also get acquainted with the good practices of other countries. This year our interest is in the practices of English schools.
The focus of the conference is on the different aspects of a good school and the ways how to assess the goodness of schools. The purpose of the conference is to find the ways how to support the development of schools through their self-analysis. We will also get acquainted with the English model of good schools and the British schools' quality system QiSS. The following questions will be discussed in the conference:
What characterises a good school and a good kindergarten? Which activities help the school to become better? How to support the self-analysis of schools? How to collect reliable data about schools? How to assess the different aspects of schools and kindergartens? Which mirror reflects the good aspects of a school most truthfully - is it the mirror of self-assessment or the mirror of external assessment?
The target groups of the conference are school boards, teachers, study support specialists, officials, researchers, parents, students.
