The next Dorpater Dozentenabend international faculty club meeting will be held on 20 April at 7pm in the Domus Dorpatensis (Ülikooli 7).
The speaker for the evening will be Dr Olaf Mertelsmann, Associate Professor in Contemporary History at the UT Institute of History and Archeology, who will present on “Estonian history in the 20th century”. In his presentation, Dr Mertelsmann aims to give a short overview of Estonian contemporary history for the foreign guests at the University of Tartu. It touches the late Tsarist period, interwar independence, the Estonian SSR, and the post-socialist transformation.
Dr Olaf Mertelsmann is author or editor of 13 books. He holds a doctorate in history from the University of Hamburg (2000). He has taught in Estonia, Germany and Russia. His main interests are social and economic history of Eastern Europe, Stalinism, Soviet history and contemporary Baltic history.
