Gitu Rani Kalita (Gauhati University, India) will deliver a lecture titled "Identity building through folklore: a case study from North Eastern India"
When a community starts to explore its past through folklore, it means exploring the differences with other communities as well.Through reviving folk practices, a community tries to objectify its identity. Identity of a community is always related to a place, language or ethnic culture and identity building through folklore always involves creativity. In order to explain this relationship between Identity movement and folklore, the lecture will analyze a particular case from Assam of establishing ethnic identity within the broader context of Assamese society.
All are very wellcome!
