On Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m., everyone is welcome to a space-related movie night. This time, we will show the first part of the documentary "The Mars Generation", where the future journey to Mars will be viewed through the eyes of the teenagers whose generation will be the first to step onto the Red Planet.
The movie observes a group of 15- to 18-year-old interns at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. They all admire to be engineers, astrophysicists and astronauts. Besides them, leading experts, who work on moving the boundaries of space research technology and innovations, share their views.
The viewers get a rare opportunity to peek into the structure of the modern space race, as seen from both the sides of the public and private sectors. "The Mars Generation" offers an idea of what becoming a multi-planet species could mean in the historical, philosophical, and technological sense, and reveals that Mars is much closer than we would have expected.
The director of the movie is Michael Barnett.
The second part of the film will be shown on May 28.
The movie is shown as part of the exhibition "Rarities of Astronomy" put out by the UT Library, UT Tartu Observatory, and UT Old Observatory. The exhibition is open until the end of May and displays the most valuable pieces of the materials that were taken from the UT Tartu Observatory to the library at the end of last year.
