Dr Nemanja Radulović (University of Belgrade, Serbia) will give a public lecture "Folkloristics in Serbia" on Tuesday, November 12th, at 16.15 in Ülikooli 16-212.
From Romanticism till nowadays collecting and researching folklore played a great role in Serbian culture. The lecture will try to make an outline of main currents in folklore scholarship and their interaction with broader social context. Various methodological approaches in spite of their differences were often determined by the same concepts. Some of the most influential were idea of folklore as literature, prevalence of epic studies and looking for mythical past. Scholarship as developed in 21st century is challenged with these "classical" concepts and tries to respond to them in a new way.
All are very welcome!
