The University of Tartu requests the honour of your presence at the inaugural lecture by Raimundas Matulevičius, UT Professor of Information Security. The lecture entitled “Information Security Risk Management using System Models” will be held on 8 October 2019 at 16:15 in the University Assembly Hall.
Information systems play an important role in everyday life. People use information systems to manage, communicate and support their data and information (such as documents, financial data, educational records and similar). However, there exist a number of security risks that affect data and information, which in many cases need to be kept private, confidential, integral and available only for the intended audience and usage. This means that the need to secure information systems and software becomes a necessity rather than an option.
Information security risk management is a systematic process during which protected system and business assets are determined, security risks and security countermeasure to mitigate these risks are elicited, documented, refined, and implemented. In this lecture we will discuss the principles of the security risk management. The lecture will illustrate what security risks and threats are observed in different application domains. We will also consider how security modelling could help explain the impact of the security risks and provide the rationale for the security countermeasures.
Raimundas Matulevičius is a professor of Information Security at the Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Tartu. His research is focused on security and privacy of information, security risk management and model-driven security. He received the BSc diploma in computer science in 1998 and MSc diploma in computer science in 2000 from Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania and the PhD in computer and information science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2005. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Namur in Belgium from 2005 to 2009. From 2010 to 2018 Matulevičius worked as an associate professor at the University of Tartu. Currently his publication record includes more than 80 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at conferences and workshops. Matulevičius has been a programme committee member at prestigious international conferences. He is the author of the book “Fundamentals of Secure System Modelling” (Springer, 2017).
