90 Years of Estonian-Language University Education
02.11.2009
On December 1, 1919, the University of Tartu changed its language of instruction to Estonian. The series of events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Estonia's national university will culminate in November.
The anniversary's academic discussion will focus on the sustainability and growth of the universities in small European countries in future, scientific terminology in Estonian and many other issues. The discussion panel will include experts of different specialties from Estonia and elsewhere.
"While celebrating the anniversary of Estonia's national university, this time, students will receive a bevy of opportunities to express their ideas, desires and emotions both within the traditional academic context and beyond, in a free and jocular manner," said Martin Hallik, Director of UT Library and chairman of the organisational committee. "This anniversary, the Estonian student heritage will be enriched by a large first-of-its-kind student songbook, which will include a wide selection of popular student songs through all times."
The songbook presentation concert and a big university-wide party will be held on November 26 at the university's Sports Building, starting at 7 p.m.
