Admission 2013: University of Tartu is again expecting applications from the most able candidates
Admission applications for bachelor's, professional higher and master's daytime studies in the University of Tartu can be submitted from 24 June to 5 July. 2,581 and 1,468 new students will be admitted for 70 bachelor's and 80 master's curricula respectively. Lists of accepted students will be published on 17 July the latest.
In Estonia, the University of Tartu offers the widest range of specialties which allows the students to combine different studies and thus enhance their possibilities for future success. Year by year, the wide selection of curricula and high level of studies attract the increasing number of the best Estonian gymnasium graduates to apply for the University of Tartu: in 2012, 67% of the best Estonian gymnasium graduates applied for the University of Tartu.
"Since the level of education is high in the University of Tartu, it is not the number of applications we consider the most important, but the people who wish to commence their studies here," says Martin Hallik, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Tartu. According to Hallik, universities of Estonia can be distinguished quite well during admission period by looking at the aims of different universities: "No doubt there are universities in Estonia who aim to receive a large number of applications or who have set some other quantitative aims, the top priority for the University of Tartu is, however, to attract the most able student candidates."
"The trend of previous years is more than pleasant for us because each year there are more and more young people from science schools who wish to continue their studies in Tartu. Take, for instance, Tallinn Secondary Science School where half of the graduates of year 2012 came to study to Tartu," adds Kaja Karo, senior specialist for student admissions in the University of Tartu.
Kaja Karo wishes to remind the student candidates that the admission for the university is an important process and thus the candidates should be well aware of the necessary dates and conditions. "It should especially be kept in mind in relation to the submission of application and then confirming your entrance later on," says Karo.
