Four researchers of the University of Tartu received national research awards
At the 12 February 2015 session of the Government of the Republic, the 2015 national research awards were given to four researchers of the University of Tartu: Andres Merits, Alvo Aabloo, Jaanus Harro and Vallo Tillmann.
In total, eight research awards (à 20,000 euros) were given to highlight the best research work completed and published during the previous four years. Four awards were given to the researchers of the University of Tartu:
Andres Merits, Professor of Applied Virology of the UT Institute of Technology, national research award in chemistry and molecular biology;
Alvo Aabloo, Professor of Technology of Polymeric Materials of the UT Institute of Technology, national research award in technical sciences;
Jaanus Harro, Professor of Psychophysiology, Dean of the UT Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, national research award in social science;
Vallo Tillmann, Head of the Children’s Clinic of Tartu University Hospital, Professor of Paediatrics, national research award in medical science.
In other fields of research, the national research awards were given to:
Tarmo Uustalu (TUT) in exact sciences;
Tiina Nõges (EULS, head of team), Helen Agasild and Priit Zingel in geology and biology;
Toomas Paalme (TUT) in agricultural science and
Krista Kodres (TU, EAA) in the humanities.
The awards for outstanding lifetime achievements in research and development (à 40,000 euros) were given to the Head of Department of TUT Institute of Cybernetics Academician Jüri Engelbrecht and Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of Ecology of Tallinn University Academician Anto Raukas.
The awards will be presented on the Independence Day of the Republic of Estonia.
