International “Borders, Regions, Neighbourhoods: Interactions and Experiences at EU External Frontiers” from 27 to 28 November in University of Tartu, Lossi 36.
The conference focuses on cooperation of the European Union with neighbouring regions and the programme includes lectures and discussions on Baltic Sea and South Caucasus regionalism, immigration, cultural integrity and memory politics.
Several presentations concentrate on the events in Ukraine, as well as on the topics of democratisation and the challenges for the European Union with respect to the conflict in particular. There is a panel dedicated to the political implications of recent sport events such as the Winter Olympics in Sochi and the International Ice-hockey Championship in Belarus. The conference’s academic conveners are James Scott, Professor at the University of Eastern Finland, and Andrey Makarychev, visiting Professor at the University of Tartu.

The conference is organised in cooperation between European College, The Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS) and Peipsi Centre for Transboundary Cooperation and with supported by EU FP7 “EUBORDERREGIONS” project, CEURUS, Konrad-Adenauer Foundation and Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Development Cooperation programme.
