Join a minute’s silence in defence of academic values
Dear university community,
The University of Tartu is committed to academic freedom and autonomy. Tolerance, respect for others, is a value of equal importance to us.
On 2 April, 147 students were killed and at least 79 people were wounded in a tragic terrorist attack on Garissa University College in Kenya. This was not only an attack on innocent people; it was also an attack on education. The University of Tartu shares the conviction that such terrorist acts are also an attack against fundamental university values.
In remembrance of all those killed in Kenya and affected by the attacks on universities and university values around the world, European University Association invites all European universities to observe a minute’s silence on Monday, on 27 April at 13:00.
Let us stand together against all forms of intolerance and violence that weaken academic freedom, have a devastating impact on research, teaching, and access to education, thereby impairing society’s long-term development.
