Postimees named Mart Noorma as the person of the year 2013
Postimees named Mart Noorma, the project manager of EstCube-1 student satellite, under the leadership of whom the first Estonian satellite was launched into the space this spring, as the person of the year.
“This year will go into history books as the year when Estonia became a space country and a satellite was launched into the space as a result of five years of work by students,” Merit Kopli, Chief Editor of Postimees, stated. She added that the ESTCube-1 project helped to popularize science in Estonia and Estonians can be proud of the satellite project.
Accepting the title of the person of the year, Mart Noorma said that the person of the year title from Postimees was something great and glorious. He stated that there are a lot of great thinkers and people with analytical skills behind the decision of choosing the person of the year. Noorma noted that the people who have been awarded the title of the person of the year have done something positive for the country and the nation. He expressed hope that the first Estonian satellite which was built in cooperation of many people would help young people to find their way to science and motivate them to think and develop for Estonia to go far.
