Public lecture on religion and politics in the European Union
Public lecture by Professor François Foret (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
“Religion and Politics in the European Union: The Secular Canopy”
Thursday, 21 May, 2015 16:15-18:00 at Lossi 36, room 214
In 2014, professor Foret published a state-of-the-art book Religion and Politics in the European Union (Cambridge Studies in Social Theory, Religion and Politics), which presented the first data ever collected on the religious beliefs of European decision makers and what they do with those beliefs; discussed popular assumptions such as the return of religion, a clash of cultures between a “European Christian club” and Islam, aggressive European secularism, and religious lobbying; and offered objective data and nonnormative conceptual frameworks to clarify some major issues in the contemporary political debate.
The lecture is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
