Students from US to learn about Baltic economies and companies
From May 25 to June 14, a group of students from the College of Business of Auburn University, U.S., will be staying in the Baltic countries in order to take part in the study programme entitled “Baltic Economies in Turmoil”, hosted in Estonia by the International Summer School of the University of Tartu.
The programme is organised by the Baltic Association of International Summer Schools, of which the University of Tartu is one of the founding members. The aim of the programme is to give participants an introduction to the management and marketing strategies of Baltic companies and to various methods that these companies are using to tackle the financial crisis.
Of the biggest companies in Estonia, the students will visit Swedbank, Microsoft Estonia, Kalev Chocolate Factory and ABB Estonia, where they will listen to talks by members of the management and engage in discussions with them. The students will also be provided an overview of the activities of the Representation of the European Commission in Estonia and of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and they will meet with Taavi Veskimägi, member of the Riigikogu (the Estonian parliament). Professor Urmas Varblane from the University of Tartu and the entrepreneur Aavo Kokk will talk about the business environment in Estonia.
Auburn students will then travel to Lithuania and from there to Latvia, where they will spend the final week of their stay in the Baltics. In both Lithuania and Latvia, they will participate in similarly structured programmes, hosted respectively by Vilnius University and Klaipeda University in Lithuania and by the University of Latvia in Latvia.
Several world-renowned universities have already expressed their desire to participate in a similar programme in 2010.
Auburn University is ranked among the 500 top universities of the world and its MBA programme is ranked among the top ten MBA programmes in the US.
