Survey: for the fifth year, the University of Tartu is in top position in the universities reputation chart
Universities image survey of TNS Emor confirmed that the University of Tartu is still the most reputable university in Estonia, which was mentioned by a total of 81% of the respondents. The University of Tartu, which has increased its reputation the most, is considered to be a reliable institution which provides high quality education and the diploma of which is highly valued in labour market.
Reputation survey of 2013 concentrated on the spontaneous reputation of the universities that are active in Estonia. The University of Tartu had prevailingly the highest spontaneous reputation: a total of 81% mentioned this particular university. Rector of the University of Tartu, professor Volli Kalm is pleased: "The University of Tartu is in top position of the universities reputation chart for the fifth year already." He adds: "The fact that the University of Tartu belongs among the top universities of the world and our increasing reputation both among Estonian population and internationally, serve as proof that our studies and research bear a certain quality badge, which has not been left unnoticed by the people."
The reputation of the University of Tartu has increased in most socio-demographic groups, the highest average rating to the University of Tartu, however, was given by young people between 15–24 years of age. "I believe that it is above all the assessment of the young people that brings more able and motivated new students to study in the University of Tartu, which serves as the aim of the university," says Martin Hallik, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Tartu. "On the one hand, the reputation of the University of Tartu is maintained by our scientists and research work that has been implemented well in society, on the other hand, however, it is maintained by our students, who have shown with their studying activities that even the space is not the limit when achieving your aims."
Based on the survey, the basis of the reputation of the University of Tartu is believed to be the high level of education, value of the diploma in the labour market and the reliability of the university (education corresponds to expectations). Additionally, it was brought out that the University of Tartu is innovative and contemporary because very many innovative solutions are created as the result of science, studying and creative work.
Additionally to the reputation position of the universities, the general reputation of study fields in Estonia among the population were mapped. The top five fields of studies that has remained constant for the past three years are all represented in the University of Tartu: computer sciences, healthcare/medical science, technical fields of study, law and business/economy.
The survey was conducted among 15-74-year-olds from 24 April to 15 May of the present year. A total of 953 people participated in the survey and the survey was conducted already for the fifth year.
