University of Tartu offers web-based Estonian language course for beginners
Estonian vocabulary course for beginners starts on 4th of March and lasts until 20th of December 2013.
The course is aimed at the adult learners. This course is suitable for people, who want to improve their skills in learning Estonian. Students will gain introductory knowledge of Estonian and Estonian vocabulary and will be able to use the vocabulary covered during the course in everyday situations. The other aspects of the Estonian language (grammatical structure, etc.) will also be introduced.
The course is 95 % web-based. There are 5 classroom meetings (or Skype-meetings) per course. The course ends with an exam.
On the meetings the teachers will provide the learners with the feed-back on home assignments, and refine their talking-skills.
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge of Estonian vocabulary and to develop student’s language skills on A1-A2 level through a variety of tasks.
On completion of the course the learners will be able to
- use the vocabulary and grammar covered during the course in everyday situations;
- read and create simple texts (both oral and written).
On the web-page of the course you will find the links to the learning materials divided into 10 lessons. The course introduces the vocabulary related to the following topics: family and home, food and drink, leisure time activities, climate and nature etc.
To go through the exercises on each topic, follow the links you find on the web-page of the course.
The creative writing assignments in the end of each topic must be filled by learners and sent to the teachers.
The time schedule of the presenting the course home works and making the on-line tests will be sent to all the participants.
E-learning tests will appear on the web-page after each class-room (Skype) meeting. The students will get individual feed-back on the results of the tests. The course ends with the exam (final test).
