The University of Tartu starts a new academic year
On Monday, September 2 at 10 a.m., an opening ceremony of the new academic year starts in the assembly hall of the University of Tartu, where Rector Professor Volli Kalm, the Minister of Education and Research and the major of Tartu welcome the students. In the new academic year, a total of 3,237 students from all levels of study start their acquisition of education in daytime studies.
"I am glad to start a new academic year with new colleagues who, in order to start their studies in the University of Tartu, have passed a high-level competition based on equal opportunities," says Professor Volli Kalm, Rector of the University of Tartu when greeting the first-year students. "The University of Tartu is doing its best to achieve top level research work and conduct inspiring, but demanding study work. Providing the academic family with motivating work and studying conditions is equally important, as well as smooth cooperation with Estonian and international partners," says the Rector, promoting commitment and open-minded attitude among all members of the university family.
Besides Rector Professor Volli Kalm, the Minister of Education and Research Jaak Aaviksoo and the mayor of Tartu Urmas Kruuse will also greet the students on the opening ceremony. On behalf of the students and first-year students, the new students will be greeted respectively by Kaspar Kruup, the Chairman of the Student Council, and Lona-Liisa Sutt, the first-year medical science student. Tartu Academic Women's Choir will perform on the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremonies of the university's Faculties of Theology, Law, Medicine, Exercise and Sport Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, Mathematics and Computer Science and Social Sciences and Education will also take place in the university's assembly hall the same day. The opening ceremony of the Faculty of Science and Technology will be held in the circular auditorium in Vanemuise Street 46.
