UT political scientists ranked among Europe’s finest
The CHE excellence rankings are based on evaluated universities’ performance measured by a number of key indicators that characterise their research results (the number of publications and the publications’ citation figures) and their international openness (Erasmus Mundus Master's programmes, student mobility and staff mobility figures). In a Europe-wide perspective, UT’s political scientists excelled in their strong international dimension and the number of citations of their publications.
In addition to quantitative figures, the ExcellenceRanking project provides useful information on the assessed universities’ Master’s and PhD programmes, a variety of facts about their research groups and the groups’ main focus of interest, about the size of the relevant faculties, the criteria for admission of students, and accommodation. Current students were also asked to evaluate the quality of their study environment and tuition, which allows prospective students to consider the opinions of their predecessors.
In 2010, the Centre for Higher Education Development will focus its ranking assessment on the fields of natural sciences and mathematics.
The Centre for Higher Education Development is an independent institution located in Gütersloh, Germany. It defines itself as a think tank dedicated to reforming the higher education system. Each year, the CHE compiles a ranking list of higher education institutions in Germany and other European countries, helping prospective Master’s and PhD students in Germany and abroad to select the most suitable research facility operated by European universities.
The CHE’s 2009 Excellence Rankings were published in the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit and on the website www.zeit.de/excellenceranking on October 29. For further information regarding the ExcellenceRanking programme, direct your browser to www.che-excellenceranking.eu.
