UT RESEARCHERS CONTRIBUTE TO ESTONIA’S PRESENTATION AT 10th VENICE BIENNALE
Estonia’s presentation demonstrates the possibilities of using mobile positioning in urban space. The access to real-time information on the movements of people in urban space provided by mobile positioning technology is used in the presentation to study socio-spatial networks, reflect and provide feedback on our use of space and open up avenues for resolving spatial planning problems in urban centres.
The presentation was prepared with the assistance of UT Institute of Geography Professor of Human Geography Mr Rein Ahas, Natural Geography and Landscape Ecology Research Fellow Mr Anto Aasa and Human Geography technician Ms Siiri Silm.
This year’s Architectural Exhibition is dedicated to the theme of “Cities. Architecture and Society” and focusses on key questions of 21st century urbanism: social dynamics, urban infrastructure, the role of individuals in space creation.
The idea for Estonia’s presentation was selected from 9 proposals submitted in an open competition organised in December 2005 by the Estonian Association of Architects.
