Professional development (PD)
The goal of supporting the teachers’ professional development is the high quality of university teaching. The development of teaching and supervision skills at the University of Tartu is based on the good practice of teaching (e.g. learning-centred approach, scientific way of thinking, collaboration). The development of teaching skills is also assessed in the professional review.
There are various opportunities to develop teaching skills, e.g. training, communities of practice and learning, development programmes, consulting.
Teacher development is supported by academic developers and instructional designers in all UT faculties https://www.ut.ee/en/studies/support-and-advice.
Academic developers consult teachers on the interpretation of course feedback, syllabus design or development, and other teaching matters. Instructional designers advise teachers on the development of Moodle courses.
Academic staff are regularly offered training programmes (incl. in English), including longer teaching and mentoring courses, seminars and workshops. See the internal training calendar.
