European Encounters: The Baltics in the European Union
The Baltic States share an intricate history of repression and liberation and are now thriving culturally and economically. Learn about the history and identity of these countries and their connection to the European Union over the course of six inspiring and educational weeks. From lectures to company visits, from museums to the European parliament, you will have a diverse and unforgettable experience in these three distinct yet interconnected countries.
During your stay in Utrecht, you will discover what makes Europeans ‘European’. Explore the varied identities that are present in Europe through lectures and day trips, while working together with a host of international students.
End this educational journey in the beautiful Latvia, where you will be taught all about a range current topics in everyday life in the Baltic States. Lectures will have subjects varying from business ethics and corruption, to intercultural communication, and from sustainability to cognitive sciences.
Applications are evaluated based on
Motivation letter (up to 1.5 page) that demonstrates the applicant’s motivation to participate, explains his/her expectations about the programme and how participation in the summer programme is connected with his/her studies and interests, and how the applicant plans to use the gained experience and knowledge in the future.

All course materials and excursion tickets are included in the total fee. The transfer from Utrecht to Estonia and from Estonia to Latvia is also included. In Estonia, breakfast will be provided and is included in the fee. Please note your baggage must not exceed 20 kg (44 lbs). Students are responsible for their travel from their home country to Utrecht and from Latvia to their home country. Because Utrecht Summer School arranges travel between the different locations, housing is mandatory. If you wish to share a room during your stay in Latvia, please write this in your short motivation and you will receive a 70 euro discount on the housing fee.
